In the short time Megan Karr, an Army and Coast Guard veteran, has lived in Kentucky, she has made an impact on the lives of Kentucky veterans. Since moving here in 2013, Megan became the Chapter Captain of the Louisville chapter of Team RWB (Red, White, and Blue), a veteran service organization with a mission of connecting veterans to the community in which they live. As chapter captain, she grew the local chapter from approximately 130 members to 600 members and increased the programming from approximately 1 event per month, to 2 or 3 events per week. As Team RWB Chapter Captain for Louisville, she helped the Lexington Field Team grow into an RWB Chapter and organized a Field Team at Fort Knox. Megan is a Peer Mentor with Wounded Warrior Project, assisting Wounded Warrior staff during week-long Project Odyssey retreats for female veterans. She acted as a contributing speaker for Kentucky’s Lady Vets Connect and supported Mayor Greg Fischer’s Week of Valor by attending meetings with VCAL. Megan works with the Robley Rex VA, attending meetings with staff, connecting local veterans with services, and helping raise awareness for veteran issues. Recently, Megan has been in touch with elementary schools to speak to children about her service dog with hopes of raising awareness of disabled veterans. It is vastly important to note Megan does all this work as a volunteer who cares deeply for the well-being of Kentucky’s veterans. Megan Karr stands out as a Kentucky veteran worthy of recognition.
